Coquette style – the waving trend on Tiktok with 1.3 billion views and counting.

Bow. Ballet flats. Flowers. Pastel. Babydoll dress. Milkmaid Tops. More or less, those are the essentials when it comes to coquette style, the style that many girls are obsessed and trying to filled their wardrobe with. Let us break down this current obsession in this blog.
“Coquette”, according to Oxford, means “a woman who likes to attract attention by behaving as if she is sexually interested in people, in a pleasant but not serious way”, whispers a sense of sexiness in it. However, the trendy coquette style is much far cry from its definition. Imagine you’re having an interview on the street, asking young teenage girls what would they choose thinking of “coquette”, a black nipped-in waist dress, or a pink pastel shirt, adorned with bows and flowers, making the wearers shine like apples. I believe that 90 per cent of them would definitely choose the pink skirt, which focuses more in the romantic, playful aspects, regardless its original meaning.
Trend hoppers stock their closets with the latest styles, they also do their best to incorporate coquette elements into everything they use—from phone cases to bedsheets, and from the bedroom to the kitchen, covering both details and the bigger picture. Those elements serve as belts and whistles, which would effortlessly declare them as the most fashion-forward presence in the room.

Not only are teenagers and influencers on social media captivated by the trendy style, but celebrities are also getting in on pinky action. From Lily-Rose Depp with her elegant white tank, highlighted by a ruched bow detail at the chest, or romantic and delicate look in pastel pink, adorned with intricate lace details adding a touch of elegance, to Lana Del Rey, who is determined as the mother of coquette, love to immerse herself in pastel silk dresses and style her hair with signature bow hair clips – coquette style totally make the girls captivated, no matter who they are.

Personally speaking, I found the coquette style quite interesting – it beautifully expresses gentleness and femininity through carefully chosen clothes and accessories. It captures the essence of a delicate persona while simultaneously revealing the charm of a mysterious soul. This unique aesthetic allows individuals to embody two opposing sides, all within the same clothing style.
But in the same way, hopping the trend causing some internet users to force themselves to follow harsh diet to meet the “standard beauty” of any specific style, when eating disorder is considered as an illness. After all, fashion is not all about chase the popular, it’s all about express your own personality through clothes, and wear confidence as your finest accessories.
